An unprecedented innovation funded with a US $57 million “venture capital” grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, AYA was charged with a two-fold mandate: to create a model of comprehensive, integrated and scalable ASRH and HIV prevention programs, and to build the capacity required for governments and other development agencies to take those programs to scale. At the end of its mandate, AYA leaves a legacy not only of behavior change in the young people reached directly by the program, but of supportive environments that will enable government, NGOs and the private sector to sustain and expand interventions that will change the lives of young people for years to come.
